Glossybox September Review

Better late than never! I've had my GlossyBox for around 3 weeks now and I love this co-lab between GlossyBox and Karen Millen.

The first thing I have to mention is the box design.  It's a beautiful design by Karen Millen of the London skyline. The different designs of the boxes each month is something I really love and find it really exciting opening it up to discover the box design.  I try and stay away from any spoilers as I really don't want to have any idea what I'm getting.

 The products I received are

ModelCo More Brows Fibre Gel
L'Oreal Mythic Oil
Skin Pep Enzyme and Acid Peel & Peeling Gel
Nails Inc Westminster Bridge Topcoat

The first full sized product is the ModelCo More Brows Fibre Gel in light/medium which is perfect for my fair hair.

I've used the Loreal Mythic Oil before and loved it so I was really pleased to receive this in my box.  A little goes a long way with this product s this good sized sample should last a long time.  I last used it last year after my summer holiday when I wanted to give my hair a bit of TLC after being in the sun and chlorine for 3 weeks. It really made a difference to my hair and left it feeling so shiny and nourished.

I'm enjoying trying the SkinPeps little samples that I've been receiving.  I received a sample of their Super C15 serum in last months box..  The full sizes of these products are £89.99 for 180ml of the peeling gel and £44.99 for 15ml of the eye cream.  I have to say I don't like the fact the peel is called acid peel.  It kinda scares me putting something like that on my skin but its fantastic and really brightens my skin.

The second full size product is the Nails inc Westminster Bridge Top Coat.  It's a matte finish and I've been using it all month over my polish and I love the matte look it gives.

I adore the Origins range so I was super pleased to receive the Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Power Serum.  It's a good sized sample that has lasted for over 2 weeks now.

I think it's safe to say I love this box... again!  GlossyBox are yet to let me down with a bad box and I'm sure, seeing as it's October tomorrow, my next one will be arriving soon.

If you'd like to receive a wonderful box of goodies to your door each month you can get Glossybox here

NAILS | Barry M Nail Paint

How amazing are the Barry M Nail Paints?  They have so many fantastic colours that I don't think I've ever found in another brand.

I had a little haul of Barry Ms last week and I love them all.  I bought all of their new Fall range & (ahem) just a few extras.

Green Berry | Chai | Chilli | Cocoa | Cardamom | Mustard
Cancun | Copa Cabana |Bikini | Carousel | Paprika | Guava

I can't say enough good things about the Barry M Nail Polish range.  I love the huge range of colours, which are all so pigmented and striking.  The Gelly Hi Shine range are so shiny and glossy and they seem to dry instantly - definitely my go to drug store nail polish.

High5 4 Friday

Can I get a high five? A High5 4 Friday that is!! What awesome things have been happening this week?

 photo H54Fbutton_zps973d26e1.png

1. First ones a bit of a cheat coz I haven't actually enjoyed it yet but... Today isn't just any Friday it's MacMillan Coffee Morning Friday. Now I don't do coffee and I don't really do cake (yeah really. I'm a savory kinda gal) so instead of a coffee n cake morning were having a wine and nibbles evening. Now I'm not promoting excessive drinking but hey, does this wine and nibbles not sound so much better than coffee and cakes - it does to me anyway!

2. Zoellas beauty range lauches online today.  As a blogger it's so fantastic to see what people are achieving all through 'their little spaces on the internet' Well done Zoe!

3. I went for a walk in the woods yesterday and ooo it was just lovely.  I'm finally embracing Fall. I stuck my wellies on and off I went. I had two 3 year olds in tow to make it more interesting. We collected conkers, made a pretend camp fire and swung on the vines like monkeys. Oh how I wish I had a 3 year olds innocent little mind.

4. Barry M Nail Polish. Just wow. All the pretty colours. LOVE! I bought quite a few, oops!

5. Don't you just love binge watching TV! I love Netflix and my current binge watch is The Good Wife. Have you seen it? I've just finished the third series. (Don't tell me anything that happens after that!!) I don't understand how Will has always got some hot chick in his bed?  Kalinda is one awesome girl and as for Peters mum, what's her name? ....... O yeah Jackie - she's a mother in law from hell ain't she!
What have you enjoyed this week? Let me know in the comments.

Zoella Beauty Range Has Landed

Everyones favourite blogger/vlogger/YouTubers beauty products have finally landed in stores.  So what's in the range?

Zoe hinted in one of her September vlogs that her beauty range may not be 'the conventional route to go down.'  And I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the products that were launched online today. I expected the makeup route but instead she's opted for a fun range of bath and body products with a couple of cute bags thrown into the mix.

Here's what you can get your hands on.

Zoella Beauty Creamy Madly Dreamy Body Lotion Review

So, what do you think?

The range is all about pampering and delicious smells!  I love the packaging.  It's so pretty and would look super cute in your bathroom.  I would say it's definitely aimed at a younger demographic than myself.

The makeup bags look to be a great size and the material is also wipe-able which I love in a make-up bag.  The pink guinea pig bag is just adorable and I can think of a few 13 year olds that would simply love it. Saying that, I think I I'd quite like it myself!

The same fragrance runs throughout the range - notes of strawberry, violet, jasmine, vanilla and gardenia which is light and not too sweet.
Stock seems to be going fast so if you want to order online I'd head over and buy them now or they'll be in store on Monday.

I'm In Love... With Revlon Colorburst Lipbutter

I hate lateness. It's one of my pet peeves. However, I am extremely late to this party. Why have I never tried this product before? Like, really?  They are one of the yummiest, scrumbocious (I think I made that word up?) things I've ever put on my lips.

They are so moisturising and make my lips look fantastic and contain mango, shea & coconut butter but without any smell.
I've never been a huge lipstick person and prefer lip glosses but I'm trying to branch and a bit and be more adventurous with my make up so these lip butters are perfect for me.  They're described by Revlon as somewhere in between a lipstick and a lip balm, which I definitely agree with.

I love the packaging of these little beauties.  The case is a translucent look of the lip butter shade with a clear window on the top.

I decided to buy 3 of them as they are 3 for 2 at Boots at the moment.  The 3 I chose were Candy Apple, Raspberry Pie  & Lollipop.  I love it when lip products or nail varnishes have cool names - I'm so much more likely to buy them.  These are mostly named something to do with fruit - some of the other shades include Berry Smoothie, Tutti Frutti & Peach Parfait.

Candy Apple 035 is a beautiful bright red colour.   Red on my lips scares me but as I mentioned I'm trying to mix it up a bit and try different things.  The nice things about this red is that it can be quite discrete if applied once or you can layer it up for a fantastic strong, vibrant red.

Lollipop 075 is a fantastic hot pink colour which the photos really don't do justice.  It definitely seemed like one of the brightest colours in the collection.  You can tone it down by putting less product on your lips if you want but for me I really love this bright, fuchsia colour.

Raspberry Pie 010 is quite berry in tone (as the name would suggest) It's quite similar to Lollipop on the lips which for me is a bit of a bummer as I purchased 2 similar shades (on the bright side, it also means I'll just have to go buy some more!)

Have you got any Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters?  Which is your favourite shade?

Do you like wearing dark lips?

What I Ate Wednesday | Inspiration For New Eats

Hey Sparkly1s.  I hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday.  Wednesday only means one thing around here and that's WIAW.

I've mentioned before about being stuck in a rut with my food but over the past few weeks I've come to realise that it's not so much being stuck in a rut, it's about not being organised enough.  I love cooking programmes, have a zillion and one recipe books and am forever reading foodie blogs for new recipes. My problem is I don't store that information.  If I see a tasty looking recipe I just think 'Mmmm that looks tasty' and move on.  What I need to start doing is writing/printing out / bookmarking the recipe and actually cooking it.

My goal over the coming weeks is to try one new recipe a week.

To do this I'll need to
1) find a tasty recipe (easy! I think I have about 5 open in other tabs right now)
2) write a list of the shopping I need to do for said recipe
3) actually go buy the goodies
4) cook

Now that might sound simple for a lot of you but for me it's just not what I do.  I have a repertoire of X number of dishes that I just cook over and over again.  I need inspiring!!

You'll notice a blank space where breakfast should be.  That's because OMG this morning was just a crazy amount a busyness and lateness and 'food is the last thing I can think of' type of morning.  Hey ho, onwards and upwards.  Let's hope the rest of the day calms down so I can actually have something to eat on this WIAW!!

Mid Morning Snack

Yeay for food!  Finally managed to get something to eat around 10.  When looking after kids is your job sometimes you don't get to eat at regular times.
I've been craving fruit other than oranges and apples which is all I seem to have had in my fruit bowl for a while now and oooo this pineapple was tasty!

I've never eaten coconut in chunks like this before and I'm not really sure what I think of it.  You know one of those foods where you have to keep eating it to see if you like it, but can never really decide.  I didn't really know if it was a healthy snack option or not and when I looked at the packaging I was surprised to see 36g of fat, 31g saturates in 100g! I decided to look into the health benefits of coconut flesh a bit more and found this article about the benefits of coconut flesh.  I dunno??

Lunch was delicious.  I'm a sucker for hummus but I haven't had it for ages.  I bought a pack of 3 mini pots last time I was shopping and decided to have the jalapeno pepper flavoured hummus today.  If there's one thing I love more than hummus, it's flavoured hummus.  I think roasted pepper hummus is my all time fav.

I ate it with these multigrain cakes which were sooo tasty and cucumber & carrot sticks.

My tea looks more like something I'd usually have for lunch and I'm not really sure why I had it for tea today but it was delicious all the same.  It's a recipe that I first found from the lovely Linda over at I Am Linderella.  I was so weary of this idea at first but it really works.  I used my usual quinoa and amaranth toast topped with a mashed banana & 2 boiled eggs. (I don't like yolks so that's why it's only the white, in case you were wondering)

I also had a strawberry yoghurt topped with a handful of blueberries.

Where do you get your inspiration for new recipes from?

Do you eat coconut flesh? Do you think it's a good addition to your diet? How do you include it in your diet?

Do you like flavoured hummus?

Benefit Majorette Blush Review

benefit majorette blush review

Last week I finally got my hands on Benefit Majorette Cream to Powder Blush. Squeals in excitement* It's a product I've been wanting to try since I found out about it and oh my, it didn't disappoint.

For a starter the packaging is so incredibly adorable. It has a wonderful vintage feel.  I think you have to get your hands on it to truly appreciate it's charm.  The blush is housed in a circular, plastic compact which flips open to reveal a full size mirror and a domed blush with a pretty sunburst design.

On a sidenote, check out all those brown leaves that have already fallen.
Back to the blush... I'm relatively new to cream to powder blush. My regular blush at the moment is Mac powder blush but I have to say cream to powders are becoming my new favourites.  This cream to powder formulation is really nice.  It glides easily over the skin and allows you to blend before setting.  The colour is simply delicious - a coral, fleshy tone which really lifts your complexion.  I haven't worn a coral blush before but I'm in love with the shade.  To apply I used my two first fingers to swirl around the pot (the pattern disappeared, something that always kinda makes me sad) and then patted and blended it on to my cheekbones.  The colour looks even more delightful on the cheeks than it does in the pot and adds a beautiful, healthy glow to the cheeks.

Did I mention the smell? Oh my, how could I have forgotten to mention the smell.  It's amazing! A delicate hint of peach and pomegranate. Mmmm good enough to eat.
At £23.50 it's quite pricey but you would expect that kind of price from a premium make up brand like Benefit.

High 5 4 Friday

Another week is (almost) over. I don't know when time started zipping by so fast. One minute you're a 16 year old kid just outta school, next your a 30 something woman with kid, job, responsibilities. Wow I'm feeling really old now.  It's got me thinking though.  We look forward to things. How many times have you said or thought 'I can't wait for the weekend' when it's only Monday morning, or 'roll on summer' on a frosty, cold January morning. My point is we wish our lives away. Take a moment today, not to wish for another time in the future but to enjoy a moment of today. Be thankful for something that's happening right now. Open your eyes, take a deep breath in and enjoy today.

In the spirit of enjoying the moment lets take a look at 5 little things that have made me happy in the past week.

1.  Spotting 5 magpies on my morning run. I'm not sure why this made me smile but I just love spotting magpies. I've never seen more than 3 together before so I was super excited to spot 5.

One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret
Never to be told

Does this mean I'm going to come into some money? So glad I put my Euromillions lottery ticket on! :D
I tried to capture a shot of them but they sadly flew away before I could get all 5 in shot.

2. Watching Mini Greenoid sleep. Ok ok I know this makes me sound like a creepy mum but really, who doesn't like to see their children peacefully fast asleep? This happened the night after I'd been shopping to buy Mini Greenoid some new pants. If you have kids you'll know what I mean what I say 'he's just suddenly grown out of all his pants' I had to buy age 11. Age 11!!! He's only 9 but he's suddenly shot up. Age 11!! He was a teeny tiny baby what seems like only yesterday. He'll be leaving home before I know it. I just needed to watch him and store it in my memory.

3. The smell of bacon. I'm a veggie but hey, the smell of bacon is still pretty amazing.

4. The sunrise this morning. I think I've moaned (me? Moan? Surely not) about the end of summer on here enough. One thing I love about Fall and Winter are the beautiful sunrises I see when I open my bedroom curtains. It's a view I occasionally take for granted but every now and then I realise how lucky I am to look out of my window and see such beauty.

5. I think I'm finally embracing the start of a new season as another thing I've loved this week is shopping for a new Fall/Winter coat.  I've shopped online. I've shopped in real life. (I know online is real life but that's just what I call it when I visit an actual shop as opposed to the internet version of a shop)
I need something showerproof with a hood.  So far I've found these three beauties...

Superdry Bridge Coat £125 from Very This one hasn't got a hood but I think I'm kinda in love with it.

WIAW | Odd Weekend Eating

I thought I'd do something slightly different for this weeks What I Ate Wednesday.  I normally share my eats from the previous Tuesday but lately I've been thinking about how differently I eat at the weekend compared to during the week so I thought I'd share a Sunday eats with you.

Our Sunday mornings tend to be a very lazy affair. I tend to get out of bed around 8ish and work on my YouTube channel ie. play computer games. However, Mini Greenoid was out between 10am-12pm this Sunday so I gave him breakfast before he left and continued playing computer games. Only around 11:30 did I decide I'd best have something to eat so I made yummy eggy bread. I love eggy bread but it tends to be a real treat for me these days as it's not the healthiest of eats. I tend to only have it when I've been a bit naughty the night before and I'm hung over.  This Sunday I wasn't hung over but just fancied some.  I made it with wholegrain bread to make myself feel slightly better about it.

Lea (lunch and tea??)

If breakfast and lunch combined is Brunch surely Lunch and Tea combined is Lea right?
This Sunday my sister, her fella and 2 kids came round.  The boys and Mini Greenoid are the bestest of friends and it's lovely to get together with them as often as possible.  My younger sister and mum were also there.
My mum made a kinda roast.  I say kinda as it had all the trimmings of a roast dinner but no roast potatoes and no roast meat - she made chicken casserole instead.  As a veggie I obviously didn't have any chicken casserole.  My 'lea' consisted of new potatoes, cauliflower cheese, mash potato, a Yorkshire pudding, peas, broccoli and baby corn.

I tend to only eat 2 meals on Sundays most weeks.  Sundays are generally spent at the computer working so time just runs away with me and I forget to eat.  As Mini Greenoid tends not to be here on Sundays I have no one else to feed and cooking for one just isn't really that appealing so I tend not to bother.
Do you eat differently at weekends than during the week?
Do you ever have to cook for just yourself? What do you cook?

WAH LONDON Has Arrived In Boots

When I heard that WAH London were unveiling their collection of nail goodies in Boots this summer I couldn't wait.  The range includes polish, pens and nail care products - everything you need to create perfect, beautiful WAH girl nails.

"I wanted to create a full line that mixes beauty, art and technology together while retaining my roots.  I've been meticulous about everything from the polish names to the nail pen design to keep it true to our culture.  The WAH Girl is comfortable being both updown and downtown and the WAH London nail polishes reflect this in premium products with a hip-hop, punky, art school twist."
WAH founder, Sharmadean Reid

The range comprises of 34 polishes, my favourites being Slicker Than Your Average and Check Your Lipstick.  I'm yet to purchase any of these but I'll definitely be doing so in the near future. Also in the range are 14 nail art pens and 6 press on nail designs.

I decided to buy a few of the nail art pens as I've always been interested in nail art but have never purchased anything to try it out.  The colours I chose were black, white, red and hot pink. I figured black and white were kinda essential in my kit and I chose the red and hot pink as I thought they might be the two colours I would get most use out of.

Now that I've tried them I definitely want ALL the other colours. They retail at £7, which I feel is very reasonable for such a quality product.

They are the trademark tool used by artists of the WAH London salon and are dual function which is a huge plus feature. They have a fine brush and even thinner pen nib to create the most intricate of design and have been designed so they are long enough to rest between your thumb and finger.

I'm a complete newbie to nail art but I did find the pens relatively easy to use.  All I need now are some ideas - Pinterest here I come...

My design has lasted 5 days so far with no chipping or fading so I'm really pleased.

The WAH London range is now available in select Boots stores and online at Boots.com
