Essie Sparkles

When I saw these Essie sparkly polishes glistening at me on the stand in Boots the other day I just knew I had to get one of them for Christmas time.  I don't really own any glittery nail polishes so I thought - what the heck, I'll buy them all! And I have to say I'm not disappointed in any of them.   

 

 

A Cut Above is a a pinky tone glitter varnish that is just so pretty and I think I will probably be wearing this one the most.  Summit of Style is a rose gold that looks beautiful over a white nail.  Set In Stones is a classic silver glitter polish that I'm currently wearing on my nails over a nude.  Rock At The Top is a gorgeous gold that I can't wait to try over a black or deep red.

 

I'm really pleased with the size of the glitter too (does that sound odd?) I feel that the glitter in some glitter polishes is too big but with these there are lots of tiny flecks of glitter with some larger pieces to really add colour.

 

 

 

I've had Set In Stones on my nails now for a week and it hasn't budged so in terms of lasting quality it definitely gets the thumbs up from me.

What's On My Nails #4

This week on my nails I've been wearing Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in the shade Chia and I have to say I've been very impressed.  When I initially bought it I thought it had a purple undertone but it hasn't at all (damn shop lighting).  It's a gorgeous shiny mid grey tone that looks particularly good with a monotone outfit. 

 

It's a shade that I feel is unlike anything else I have in my collection so for that reason I think it's definitely a keeper.

 

I've been really impressed with the lasting quality of this varnish, as I have mentioned in the past that I feel Barry M varnishes just don't have that staying power of other more expensive brands (which btw, I don't mind as I like to change my polish quite often anyway) This one though has been going strong since Sunday night and it's now Friday morning - I think that's really good for such an inexpensive product. I have only one teeny, tiny chip on my right index nail.

What's On My Nails #3

This weeks polish has actually been on my nails since last Thursday.  I chose Barry M Gelly Hi Shine in Mango as I thought bright orange was a good colour to have on my nails over Halloween.

I've only recently started buying Barry M nail polishes and I'm in two minds about them.  I adore the vast range of fantastic colours they do and at between £2.99 and £3.99 they really are a bargain.  I bought this particular shade when I was trying out some Halloween nail art and definitely feel it's more a shade for 'fun' nails as opposed to every day wear. 

 

The problem I have with this polish is the brush seems very thin and I find the formula very runny.  It did only need two coats though to get a really intense orange colour though.  I love the shine in these Gelly Hi-Shine polishes as they really do have an intense shine and don't need a top coat.  In terms of their lasting power, mine are still going strong 4 days after painting them without any chips so I'm really pleased about that.

 

Will I keep this polish in my collection? Probably.  As it's unlike any other shade I own and a bright, intense orange has definitely come in handy to have around this time of year.

What's On My Nails #2

In my quest to sort out my nail polishes I'm trying every single one to see if it's a colour I still like or if it's gone all gunky and whether it can stay in my polish collection or move on to a better home. I started this a week ago and have decided to keep the polish I had on last week.

 

This weeks polish is a beautiful classic red from Rimmel in shade Ready, Aim, Paint.  Oh. My. Goodness. I literally adore this.  I'd forgotten two things 1. How much I love a classic red polish and 2. How fantastic Rimmel 60 second polish is.  I picked this out last night to paint my nails and it was quite late.  Now, I don't know if this is just me but you know when you paint your nails in the evening and think they're dry so you totter off to bed. Then in the morning, disaster happens and you wake up with what I call 'pillow nails.'  ie. you've got the pattern of your pillow embedded in your nails because you've put your hand under or on your pillow whilst you're asleep.  This has happened to me on more occasions than I care to mention and man, it's annoying. 

 

I was so surprised by how quick this dries and I mean dries completely, not just that top layer dryness that can still be dented and ruined, but real, rock, hard dryness that ain't budging.  It claims 60 seconds, now I'm not sure it was quite that quick but it wasn't far off.  I applied two coats, but honestly I could have got away with one as the formula is really opaque.  Oh and I haven't mentioned the brush.  The brush is a flat, which I love in a polish as I think it's much easier to apply.

I don't know how long it will last without chipping as I only applied it last night but I think this is definitely one which will be staying in my collection.  The only problem is I now want to go and more Rimmel nail polish...

Whats On My Nails? #1

I've decided I want to sort out my nail polishes. I don't have a huge collection compared to some but I feel my collection possibly contains some polishes that I'll just never wear again. I don't believe in keeping things just for the sake of it so to sort them out I've decided to try every single one and decide if I like it or not.

The first polish I grabbed out of my collection this morning is Avon Nailwear Pro+ in Grape Goddess. It's quite shimmery and has tiny glitter pieces in it.  I think it's quite a good Autumn shade but I'm not sure how I feel about the sparkle in it.  I had a little look on the Avon website and this shade is no longer available which kinda makes me want to keep it.

What do you think of this shade? Should I keep it?

The Perfect Fall Nail

If you follow this little blog you'll know that I've been loving Barry M nail polishes recently.  I had a little haul of them here and I've really been enjoying trying them all out.

They are so affordable and I love all the different shades.  I will admit that they haven't got the staying power of some of the more expensive brands and after a few days I tend to get some chipping.  But, I'm a girl who likes to paint my nails often.  I get bored of the same colour on my nails so I find that by the time the colour has a few chips in, I'm ready for a change anyway. 

I think I've found my favourite Fall/Autumn colour.  It's Chilli In the Gelly High Shine range.  It's a beautiful Autumnal browny red that has an amazing 'gelly' shine.

Spooky Halloween Nail Art

Halloween is most definitely my favourite holiday. There's so many reasons why Halloween is so fantastic.  I love cooking up all the cool Halloween treats like merguine ghosts, sausage witches fingers, pumpkin oranges... It's such a fun time for a party for all ages and of course there's the dressing up that has to be done.  Oh and the decorating with ghosts, skeletons and witches...

I could go on and on about how wonderful Halloween is but lets take a look at these wonderful Halloween nails I've created.  I am no expert in nail art, so trust me, if I can do these, you can too.

 

You don't need any fancy tools or equipment.  I don't own a dotting tool so just used a handy little tooth pick that I dipped in nail polish a few times and left to dry to create a little ball at the end. It worked perfectly.

 

The products I used were Barry M Gelly Hi Shine in Key Lime (green), Prickly Pear (purple) and Mango (orange), Essie Polish in Blanc, WAH London Nail Art Pens in white, black and red.

How amazing are the Barry M Nail Paints?  They have so many fantastic colours that I don't think I've ever found in another brand.

I had a little haul of Barry Ms last week and I love them all.  I bought all of their new Fall range & (ahem) just a few extras.

I can't say enough good things about the Barry M Nail Polish range.  I love the huge range of colours, which are all so pigmented and striking.  The Gelly Hi Shine range are so shiny and glossy and they seem to dry instantly - definitely my go to drug store nail polish. 

 

WAH LONDON Has Arrived In Boots

When I heard that WAH London were unveiling their collection of nail goodies in Boots this summer I couldn't wait.  The range includes polish, pens and nail care products - everything you need to create perfect, beautiful WAH girl nails.

"I wanted to create a full line that mixes beauty, art and technology together while retaining my roots.  I've been meticulous about everything from the polish names to the nail pen design to keep it true to our culture.  The WAH Girl is comfortable being both updown and downtown and the WAH London nail polishes reflect this in premium products with a hip-hop, punky, art school twist."

The range comprises of 34 polishes, my favourites being Slicker Than Your Average and Check Your Lipstick.  I'm yet to purchase any of these but I'll definitely be doing so in the near future. Also in the range are 14 nail art pens and 6 press on nail designs.

I decided to buy a few of the nail art pens as I've always been interested in nail art but have never purchased anything to try it out.  The colours I chose were black, white, red and hot pink. I figured black and white were kinda essential in my kit and I chose the red and hot pink as I thought they might be the two colours I would get most use out of. 

Now that I've tried them I definitely want ALL the other colours. They retail at £7, which I feel is very reasonable for such a quality product.

They are the trademark tool used by artists of the WAH London salon and are dual function which is a huge plus feature. They have a fine brush and even thinner pen nib to create the most intricate of design and have been designed so they are long enough to rest between your thumb and finger.

 

I'm a complete newbie to nail art but I did find the pens relatively easy to use.  All I need now are some ideas - Pinterest here I come...

My design has lasted 5 days so far with no chipping or fading so I'm really pleased.

Nail Polish Obsession

*Holds hand up. My names Sara and I have a nail polish addiction.  I dont think thats such an odd thing.  I think alot of girls have alot of nail polishes (you do right?)  I'm a little obsessed with looking at pretty painted nails.    When I started Pinterest the first board I started was a Pretty Nails board.

 

 

The crazy thing about my nail polish obsession is that I'm not someone who paints my nails all the time. I don't know why I buy them.  When I see my collection I feel guilty and decide I must start painting my nails but I just don't.  I don't have the time.  Or should I say, I don't make the time.

 

 

 

 

What is it about nail polish that makes me buy them?  Why do I buy something I know I'm probably not gonna get any use out of?  

 

And with those thoughts, I'm off to paint my nails... (maybe)
